If you did not get to attend this past Thursday's COTU meeting, here is a summary of what you missed out on below:
The meeting was well attended with over 30 concerned citizens eager to be involved in keeping our county the MOST CONSERVATIVE county in SC.
Committee reports were given on local issues that our County Council are facing as well as School Board, Planning Commission and elections board. We also discussed appointed board seats that need to be filled and the fact the deadline for filing to run for a position on the county council or school board will be closed on March 30 at noon. Please consider running as we do need to have choices if we are to get rid of those RINOs that are incumbents and not following the GOP platform. No one should be getting a free pass to go uncontested in these races.
The highlight of the meeting was our guest speaker, candidate for District 5 SC House, Clay Hamlett. He is challenging present RINO Rep. Neal Collins in the upcoming Republican Primary to help make sure that Conservative Republican Citizens are better represented in Columbia, SC.
Let me begin by stating COTU cannot endorse a candidate. We can, however, allow candidates to speak to our members, (we have over 350 on our email list) so the candidate can educate our members on their political stances and explain why they think our members should vote for them.
Clay was impressive. He may be young and getting ready to turn 21years old, but he made it clear his goals are in line with conservatism. He was well spoken, sharp, and didn't skip a beat during the question and answering section after he explained his 5 essential core goals once elected. The 5 goals he spoke on were:
1. Pro-life
2. Adhering to the SC State Constitution and US Constitution
3. Education reform
4. Greater Accountability from our Legislators
5. More Efficient Spending of our tax dollars
The only negative comment we have ever heard about Clay is that he is young. Well folks, let's don't judge a book by its cover! Young people matter! And just because you are young doesn't mean you don't have core Christian Conservative ideology. We encourage you to call him and check him out as soon as possible. You vet him personally with your questions. We already know what Rep. Neal Collins stands for, and he does not represent COTU core goals.
If anyone else throws their hat in the ring to run against Neal Collins, we promise to invite that candidate to our meeting to explain why they would be the best candidate to replace Neal.
Republican Primary is on Tuesday, June 14th!
