Is FOIA Just a Way to Swindle More Money out of Taxpayers?

Below is a FOIA request sent to the School District of Pickens County to find out about how they are spending YOUR tax dollars on questionable educational alliances with left leaning sources.

Below is screenshot of how The School District of Pickens County responded and explains why they want $2,700 dollars to supply that information!

Why should a taxpaying citizen have to double pay an employee who already gets paid?

Especially at $91 an hour?

Shouldn't we taxpayers be able to access this information at a much lower cost?

After all, it's our money they are using. And we pay their salaries.

Shouldn't our S.C. Legislators be drafting legislation to REFORM FOIA requests so the entity we are trying to hold accountable doesn’t basically extort excessive amounts of money in order to find out WHAT resources they are using OUR money on to basically indoctrinate students instead of educating them?

Shouldn’t filling a FOIA request already be under someone’s job description?

I don’t mind paying for printing cost of any material that can’t be transferred electronically… but seriously $2,700 to find out what they are spending my tax dollars on?

Aren't "fees" really just another name for taxes?

That high fee to get public information is ridiculous.

Sounds like SDPC doesn't want you to know what’s going on so they employ the tactic of "jack” the price up and maybe they’ll back off from seeking that information.

We indeed need to start contacting our SC legislators that charging exorbitant fees for information that should be more easily made available to citizens is imperative legislation that needs to be introduced.

Sen. Rex Rice @ 864-884-0408
Sen. Thomas Alexander @ 864-638-2153

Tell them you want FOIA reform now!
