For Immediate Release:

Conservatives of the Upstate (www.conservativesoftheupstate.com )has adopted a resolution which was sent to the Pickens Legislative Delegation Members demanding quarterly meetings as well as transparency in the process of their appointments to boards and commissions. We do not think that once a year meetings are enough to keep Pickens County citizens informed as to what is taking place in Columbia. We also do not think it is in the best interest of Pickens County citizens that they email and phone each other about their decisions to appoint board members and commissioners and thus shut we the people out of that transparency and input. We therefore, are exercising our right to petition our government for our grievances.

See Resolution below:

COTU RESOLUTION DEMANDING QUARTERLY MEETINGS OF OUR PICKENS COUNTY SC LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION MEMBERS AND TRANSPARENCY ON APPOINTMENTS TO BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

Whereas, The United States Constitution guarantees us in the First Amendment the right to petition our government; and

Whereas, The Constitution of the State of South Carolina in Article 1 Section 1 states, “ all political power is vested in and derived from the people only, therefore they have the right at all times to modify their form of government; and

Whereas, The Constitution of the State of South Carolina guarantees we the people in Article 1 Section 2 the right to petition the government or any department thereof for a redress of grievances; and

Whereas, The SC Code of Laws, Title 30, Chapter 4, Section 30-4-15 Freedom of Information Act it states, “ The General Assembly finds that it is vital in a democratic society that public business be performed in an open and public manner so that citizens shall be advised of the performance of public officials and of the decisions that are reached in public activity and in the formulation of public policy.”;and

Whereas, both Greenville County Legislative Delegation and Spartanburg County Legislative Delegation provide quarterly quorum meetings with their constituents and transparency of their process of voting on appointments to boards and commissions; and

Whereas, all of our Pickens County Delegation members are Republicans and the SC GOP Platform states, “ We enjoy a government of the people, by the people and for the people such that “the people” must not abrogate their responsibilities to government officials,

Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, The 300 members of Conservatives of the Upstate demand our Pickens County Delegation Members which consist of Senators Rex Rice and Thomas Alexander, and Representatives David Hiott, Neal Collins, Jerry Carter, and West Cox, provide quarterly meetings with the voters of Pickens County and also provide transparency in their process and votes for appointments to boards and commissions beginning this year 2021. Seeing as one meeting has already taken place on Jan 4, 2021, we request 3 more meetings to take place at Chairman Sen. Rex Rice's pleasure and that our delegation members all attend to provide transparency in their discussions and voting on who they appoint to boards and commissions.
