Important Meetings this week ...

The Pickens County Council will meet at the County Administration Building tonight at 6:30 PM . The Council is deciding on whether or not  to hold an advisory vote during the November elections - giving Tri-County Tech $6.5 to $6.7 million to build a new student Union building.

This is against the law in my opinion (Article 11 Section 3 of the SC Constitution) - the state is responsible for funding this building if it is to be built. Since all of our over-collected funds are already obligated, in my opinion illegally reserved, for a new jail, this will mean a tax increase. Such a tax increase would also be illegal because the 8% for educational funding -,using general obligation bonds - is already used up by the School Board.

Pickens County has already spent tens of millions to finance a career center that is Tri-County Tech's main mission, at a direct cost to Pickens County tax payers, but hidden in the Pickens County School Board's budget.

Come and protest or have your taxes go up.

Tuesday Night, October 4, 2016, COTU will have a joint Meet the Candidates meeting with the Pickens County Tax Payers Association at 7 pm at the Water Department Building on Highway 178 just beyond Cannon Hospital coming out of Pickens (Bethlem-Roanoke Water District 4502 Moorefield Mem. Highway).

Questions will be allowed from the floor.

YOU ALL NEED TO COME AND HEAR WHAT ALL THESE REPUBLICANS SAY ABOUT WHAT THEY WILL DO WITH YOUR MONEY THE NEXT FEW YEARS.

Junius Smith
President Conservatives of the Upstate
