Liberty, District 4, board member Ben Trotter was absent due to his resignation. His seat will not be filled until an April 1, 2014 special election held in Liberty.
Liberty WAS NOT represented in this spending vote.
In other words ... 1/6th of voters and taxpayers in Pickens County were not represented. The school board intentionally held this vote without Trotter and the spending measure passed 3 to 2.
Had Trotter been there, the vote would have been 3 to 3 and the spending motion would have failed.
Pickens County School Board member Alex Saitta …
“My view is the district/ board must focus on being more economical in its future capital purchases (roofs, HVACs, repaving, computer refreshes) and also look for efficiencies when it comes to managing the maintenance of its buildings and equipment,” Saitta said.
None of the proposals discussed Monday become policy without the approval of the full school board."
