Thank you for contacting me about the use of drones targeting American citizens on American soil. I appreciate hearing from you.
I believe that the 4th Amendment to the Constitution, which precludes the government from warrantless searches, should be our guide when we consider what the federal government should be allowed to do with drone technology. That is why I am a proud cosponsor of H.R. 1242, legislation to prohibit the use of drones to kill citizens of the United States within the United States.
I stand with Senator Rand Paul and appreciate his efforts with a Senate filibuster to receive an answer from the White House regarding this important matter. I am pleased that Attorney General Eric Holder has finally and formally agreed that the President does not have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil.
Please know, as we continue to discuss securing our homeland and the greater "War on Terror," that I will keep your thoughts in mind, always working to protect both the lives and the liberties of our citizens.
