If You Know When The Meeting Is Held ...

_______________________________________

Word comes from Orangeburg SC, that School Boards around the country are trying a new tactic to silence the people at School Board meetings ... calling the Fire Marshall.

It seems that the Orangeburg Consolidated School District 3 (OCSD3) refuses to make a venue change for their meetings ... instead meeting in a small boardroom where many people attending cannot sit (or stand) within view of a trustee.

From the article at The Times & Democrat:
"Good public participation at school board and other meetings is normally considered a positive thing, but Orangeburg Consolidated School District Three is apparently experiencing too much of a good thing."

Are packed school board meetings a danger?

In Pickens County, the School Board has tried many tactics for "un-involving" the public ...

• Meetings at 7:30am

• Meetings at 9:00pm

• Multiple meetings in a very short time span

• Placing notices in the paper in obscure places or on the day of or day before the even so attendees don't have time to plan.

• Holding referendums and not following near unanimous voter direction.
