Sustainable Development: Is It Bearable?

_______________________________________

This is Rusty, the webmaster at Conservatives Of The Upstate ...

Since our April meeting where Junius explained the terminology of Sustainable Development, I've been researching the topic quite a bit. One thing I came across is this graphic in a Wikipedia article. The article is left leaning and favorable towards the idea (saying it is a "good thing") but curiously has this graphic with it ...

All one has to do is just look at this graphic to see that Sustainable Development is neither viable, equitable, or bearable. Technically, that's not the way you read a Venn diagram properly, BUT these terms are OUTSIDE the confines of what "Sustainable" means. In other words, it isn't a viable plan. It isn't equitable. People typically won't be able to live with it - it's unbearable.

The Pickens County Comprehensive Plan and Pickens County Vision 2025 are both Sustainable Development initiatives being implemented right now! Are you making sure these plans are "bearable" to you?

Sustainable Development and Its Goals Pt II

_______________________________________

Sustainable Development and its Goals Pt II

by Junius Smith

When you hear the word "green", usually it's a Progressive’s code word for Sustainable Development - which is a system organized by the United Nations as Agenda 21. In 1993, Bill Clinton gave by executive order, to his cabinet, to implement at all levels of the executive branch a program for Agenda 21/Sustainable development. There are at least 32 facets of cancerous Sustainable Development implementation.

I'll try to explain what's happening before our eyes right now.

County Council will tell you that the State of South Carolina requires that every ten years the County must follow its guidelines in preparing an up to date Comprehensive Plan. Pickens County has an advisory planning commission with unelected citizens setting the policies and recommending them to the Council. The Council then passes them and puts them into law. In doing so, the Council, over the years, encroaches more and more on the rights granted in the Constitution of both the State and the Federal government. For instance, the new ordinance states that the County has the right to take a certain number of feet of road frontage from the property owner without paying for it. They construct roads and utilities on this property for whatever purpose they choose. They pass laws with impunity that will restrict the use of private property. Agenda 21 goes much further as the ultimate goal of this program is to have the government of the world to control all property. The Comprehensive Plan has the pegs that the United Nations will eventually hang its take over of all private property.

A surprised County Council reacted to my statement this past Monday night as if most of them didn’t even know what I was talking about when I mentioned the name Agenda 21/Sustainable Development. The Council was informed of the devastation that will be caused by adopting the procedures in this United Nations' plan. Some of you will remember that President Obama kept telling dissenting liberal Democrats not to worry about what was in the health care bill now because it will be changed later. The same is true for the Comprehensive Plan of Pickens and other counties. Once you accept this method of controlling every aspect of human life, the dye is cast. You see one of these plans was put through ten years ago and most of us didn’t even know it. Now it has grown.

On Tuesday night the Pickens County Taxpayers Association held a public meeting that featured guest speaker Chis Brink, Planning Director of Pickens County. Brink's job is to formulate the Pickens County Comprehensive Plan. Mr. Brink stated that he never knew about Agenda 21/Sustainable Development until last month. Yet his talk about the Pickens Plan centered exactly on the United Nations agenda, down to the last word. The committee to formulate the program is made up of 59 individuals from all over the County, some of whom have a liberal, Marxist view of the world. Some in this committee are pushing for County wide zoning using these principles, which will end Agriculture and our freedom as we have know it. Already your cows can’t drink from streams, the trees on your property cannot be cut within a certain distance of streams, fertilizers and chemicals that wash into the stream can be tested so that your farm can be shut down, and if you try to clean it up, the results have to be better than the water was before the test.

More on this subject in the next segment.

Go to the meeting at the County Administration Building on April 20, 2010 at 4PM.

Voice your concerns!!

A Rose Is Still A Rose By Any Other Name.

In our ongoing education about Sustainable Development ...

Here are some local, regional, and national organizations and names that promote these ideas within communities and in the media:

Upstate Forever

Vision 2025 / And other similarly titled "Vision" groups

Pickens County 2030 Plan

The Comprehensive Plan / And other similarly titled "Comprehensive Plan" groups

PCSD = Presidential Council For Sustainable Development

NGO = Non Governmental Organization / Most SD Groups are "volunteer"

National Education Strategy / Goals 2000

EPA = Environmental Protection Agency

Stakeholder Group

Land Use Project

Consensus Group

ICLEI = Internet Council For Local Environmental Initiatives

PeaceChild

There are many more. All of these groups promote these messages with "saving money", "helping the environment", and "the right thing to do". Some of these organizations and groups have good ideas - but a lot are common sense and a lot are voluntary. Do you want to be MADE to do something? These groups have an "all or nothing" philosophy. You may agree with a few things the group does, but if you "go along" with the plan - you are going along with the WHOLE initiative.

Most of the rhetoric from these groups promotes happiness and harmony through parks, recreation, tourism, and better air to breathe. They promote their ideas as voluntary. Some even promote their ideas as being "free".

"Free" to a sustainable development group means - it's hidden how you pay for it. These groups waste resources at the local, county, state, and federal level - obtaining grants to fund the printing of propaganda brochures. They obtain grants and vouchers for their travel. They meet in government buildings - government buildings that cost taxpayers electricity, maintenance, and cleanup for each meeting. They obtain taxpayer dollar and resources to build websites. Also understand that these groups take away from other valid charities and take away from church tithing.

A Few Notes From Last Night's Meeting ...

A Few Notes From Last Night's Meeting ...

_______________________________________

Agenda 21 aka ...

Last night, Junius Smith, Conservatives Of The Upstate President gave a presentation about Agenda 21 aka Sustainable Development aka The Comprehensive Plan aka Vision 2025 aka Pickens County 2030.

The purpose of last night's presentation was to educate the group on terms used in public forums or debates over the issues regarding Agenda 21.

Mr. Smith mentioned that oft times the people behind Agenda 21 initiatives are eloquent and intelligent and that we need to be armed with their terminology so we can debate and dispute them.

Mr. Smith stated that the following terms are part of Agenda 21 rhetoric:

Green Accounting
Recycle / Reuse programs
Ecolabel Regulations
Sustainable development Indicators
School Curriculum
Environmental Impact Assessment
Tourism
Public Transport
Energy
Solid Waste
Hazardous Waste
Toxic Chemicals
Freshwater Management
Oceans & Coastal Areas
Biotechnology
Biometrics
Biological Diversity
Sustainable Agriculture
Sustainable Mountain Development
Drought
Deforestation
Land Use Planning
Atmosphere
Changing Consumption Patterns
Combatting Poverty

After explaining each ... Mr. Smith mentioned that a lot of these programs are meant to appeal to the heart and are framed as "good for you, good for the environment, and good for the Earth". Discussions are often loaded with buzz words to rally people into a blind cause rather than understanding the real goal.

Over the next few weeks we will go over some of these topics individually here on the website and at our regular monthly meetings.

In the mean time ... what can we do to stand against Sustainable Development and Agenda 21:

1) We need to pray for this Country

2) Attend informational meetings for The Comprehensive Plan (or whatever your similarly titled programs are)

The next Pickens County meetings are scheduled for April 20 & April 24, 2010 see http://www.2030PickensCounty.com for details

3) Attend TEA party meetings, Conservatives Of The Upstate or groups like it. Encourage neighbors, friends, and family to attend as well. Potentially combine, share, or meet with other groups to begin organization before the 2010 congressional elections and the 2012 presidential elections.

4) Write to newspapers (letter to the editor), post on the internet, get published, be interviewed by the media - get the word out!

5) Vote in elections - vote against anyone that openly understands and intends to implement ANY Agenda 21 policy forcibly through law or taxation.

6) Vote in local elections / Voice your opinion to local officials at City Council and County Council meetings - even Mayors and City Council members need to be aware of Agenda 21 issues and be told to resist the push from the County, State, and Federal levels.

7) Watch shows like Glenn Beck on Fox News, visit websites like The Deweese Report

Call To Action ... Tonight @ Pickens County Council Meeting

_______________________________________

Dear Readers,

Your property rights are in jeopardy more so now than ever. If you live in Pickens County we need you to be at the county council meeting tonight at 6:30PM at the County tax office on McDaniel Ave in Pickens. The government program handed down to the States then down to the counties is taking hold in our county.

(Other Counties are facing the same issues so if you live in Oconee, Anderson or Greenville you need to find out when your county council is meeting.)

The government program which I am referring to is called Sustainable Development. In Pickens, it is called The Comprehensive Plan. This program was conceived in the United Nations and named Agenda 21. It's being pushed in our towns, and we need to show up at county meetings to let County Council know we are against this.

This is not good for our Towns, Counties, States, or Country!

See you at County Council meeting Monday.

Thanks,

Kathy Murphy

If The South Carolina Constitution Is Standing In The Way Of Transparency, Then SC Senators Should Be Clamoring To Change It!

_______________________________________

We got this email in our inbox at Conservatives Of the Upstate from the SC Campaign For Liberty:

Dear Friend of South Carolina,

Wow. Things sure happen fast when you turn up the heat! I’m writing to make you aware of Senator Larry Martin’s opposition to H3047 and of what happened to H3047 in the Senate chamber Tuesday morning. This is the bill that will require recorded votes on every new law that is passed.

First, let me say to keep up the calls and emails to Senator Glenn McConnell today and ask him to do all in his power to see that H3047 gets an up or down vote on the Senate floor ASAP with no amendments.

Next, call your state senator and tell him the same thing! We want an up or down vote on the Senate floor without delay! You can find your senator and his contact information by clicking here and entering your zip code.

Make no bones about it, this will be a tough battle! But, it is one we can win, because all the senators know that they cannot credibly oppose putting their votes on the record. That is exactly what H3047 will do.

I’ve heard the senators use all kinds of convoluted ways of explaining their opposition, while trying to look like they support transparency. We simply must not let them fool us! If they oppose this bill, the real reason is because they want to protect their backroom dealing.

The most ridiculous excuse I’ve heard so far is that it is unconstitutional! And they simply must follow the Constitution!

Of all the preposterous reasons, this one takes the cake! Just how gullible do they think we are?

Well, Senator Larry Martin, of Pickens County, must think we are all fools!

To a couple of writers, Senator L. Martin responded that this bill might violate the South Carolina Constitution. His exact words, and I quote, “I'm determined to follow the Constitution and not vote for a House bill that does otherwise.”

Shoot... if the South Carolina Constitution is standing in the way of transparency, then Larry Martin should be clamoring to change the Constitution instead of hiding behind its supposed flaw!

This law must be passed right away. Then, if it is challenged as unconstitutional, and if a judge rules against it, we can start the work of changing the Constitution.

But who is going to challenge it? A Senator? A member of the House? That would be his political death knell! Can you picture the newspaper headlines? “Senator Larry Martin sues to keep his votes secret." Who could win the next election with that in the hand of his challenger?

No. Once passed, it won’t be challenged in court. That is why they are working so hard to keep it from an up or down vote on the floor of the Senate.

To another writer, Senator Larry Martin replied, “I am pleased to share with you our Senate rule regarding Roll Call voting, which I believe makes our process in the Senate very transparent.”

Really, Senator Martin? The facts are clear! According to the South Carolina Policy Council, they have voted with anonymous voice votes 87% of the time this year. Is that good enough for you?

I think South Carolina deserves better than that! It is your right to know how your senator votes!

Next, let me tell you what happened in the Senate Tuesday morning as they received H3047 from the House.

Lt. Governor Andre Bauer was presiding, so he got to decide which committee the bill went to!

As a candidate for governor, this was his opportunity to show he supports transparency! I saw a ray of hope when the clerk read H3047, fresh from its unanimous passage in the House. Surely Lt. Gov. Bauer would refer it to a friendly committee!

That ray of hope was extinguished when I heard Andre, as he handed over the bill, say, “Judiciary.” Dang it! That is Senator Glenn McConnell’s committee. McConnell is the one who buried an identical bill in an unfriendly subcommittee early last year.

Bauer had a chance to hit a home run for transparency, but instead, he struck out!

I tell you these things not to dash your hopes of getting this passed, but to strengthen your resolve!

It will pass, because most of the Senate is smart enough to know that a vote against this bill is a vote for their own retirement.

No politician can credibly go on the record against this bill and win his next election. That is why it passed unanimously in the House once it made it to the House floor.

That is why it will pass when it hits the floor of the Senate.

Keep up the calls to your senator and to President Pro Tempore, Glenn McConnell, and let them know that you expect nothing less than their full support for this bill.

These senators think they can operate in the dark and kill this bill without being noticed. We must let them know that we are watching!

So call and email Senator Glenn McConnell today and ask him to do all in his power to see that H3047 gets an up or down vote on the Senate floor ASAP with no amendments.

Next, call your senator and tell him the same thing! We want an up or down vote on the Senate floor without delay!

You can find your senator and his contact information by clicking here and entering your zip code.

We need this bill on the governor’s desk right away!

Can we afford any more secret votes in the State House?

One more request... the lobbyists and corporate fat cats that oppose our work are well funded. In order to fight back, we need your donations! If you can, donate now to help bring accountability to South Carolina’s legislators by clicking here.

See the latest updates and action needed at www.opensouthcarolina.org.

See a very polite letter to South Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell letting him know in no uncertain terms that he will be held responsible for the passage of this bill by clicking here.

Sincerely,

Talbert J. Black, Jr.

Interim State Coordinator

South Carolina Campaign for Liberty

How much longer can we afford secret votes by our state legislature?

Your help is needed now to stop this insanity. H3047 will require a recorded roll call vote on every new law that gets passed. We’ve passed the House and now must get it through the Senate.

Contact Senator McConnell today and tell him you want him to do everything in his power to get this bill passed with no amendments!

Call your Senator today and tell him to support H3047 without amendments. Tell your senator that a vote against H3047 is a vote for his retirement.

Thanks!
